ARC Mission and Goals
Mission Statement:
The Academic Resource Center (ARC) at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) will provide a success-oriented, learner-centered educational environment designed to help students meet the challenges of achieving academic success and productively adapting to student life. In collaboration with faculty, staff, and students, the ARC will develop and enhance programs, resources, and services designed to boost student success and maximize their academic, social and professional potential.
Goal 1: Assist students in improving their academic skills and performance in college courses by providing Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) for designated sections of historically difficult courses.
Outcomes: Students will
- Successfully matriculate through targeted courses;
- Develop effective learning and study skills;
- Be prepared for the rigor and demands of academic work at the college level.
Goal 2: Assist students in preparing for and adapting to college life by providing junior and senior student mentors to serve as positive role models for first-year students.
Outcomes: Students will:
- Develop meaningful connections within the university community to achieve educational, social and personal goals;
- Participate in educational and co-curricular opportunities designed to facilitate the transition into the intellectual, cultural, and social milieu of the university community;
- Be aware of and use available university resources.
Goal 3: Cultivate students' intellectual and social development by consolidating and disseminating information about campus facilities, learning resources, and support services to students, faculty and staff.
Outcomes: Users will
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive website;
- Provide access to educational support materials such as learning style inventories and study tips;
- Create and distribute information on campus resources and services, including programs supported by the ARC. |
